Henderson Country Sketchbook Book Launch
BOOK LAUNCH and PRESENTATION
with John W. Anderson
October 27, 5pm
While many of you know John as an outstanding watercolor painter, he also had a 40+ year career as a successful architect. This book brings him back to his roots of his love of historic buildings--researching and rendering them as a memory of places he visited. We are so pleased he decided to turn an eye on the town he now calls home and created "Henderson County Sketchbook." There are 52 drawings of local buildings and landmarks, some of which depict several of his favorite haunts, including Hot Dog World, The Starving Artist art supply store, and the Erle Stillwell-designed building that houses The Gallery at Flat Rock. “I look forward to sharing some of my graphic images of familiar landmarks in the county we call home,” says Anderson.
Individual copies of “Henderson County Sketchbook” are available the gallery for $40 each. Also, the original prints are for sale at the gallery for $150 each. Presented in a 12 x 16" mat, they fit into a ready made frame.

For his second book of poems, “I Pray You,” published in 2021, Tim created a book of blessings that reflect the beauty and terror of being alive in the real world. Tim credits inspiration for the book to the late Irish poet John O’Donohue, particularly O’Donohue’s book “To Bless the Space Between Us: A Book of Blessings.” The poems in “I Pray You” are drawn from Tim’s real-life experiences being on the front lines of trying to keep vulnerable people safe in the middle of a pandemic.

Spring Wildflower Saunter with Tim Jones
To saunter is something altogether different from a hike or a stroll. It comes from a French expression that means to go on a rambling pilgrimage to a sacred place. That best describes the delight and improvisational nature of Tim’s wanderings among the mountain forests when they are resurrected with rich colors and aromas each Spring. This will be a chance to join Tim in a small group setting and experience in person many of the wildflowers that inhabit his photographs. Tim will be sharing some of his favorite plant lore along the way.

Artist Talk and Demo: Erin Keane, "Light is Elastic: Encaustic Wax with Photography"
July 14 Erin Keane,
Light is Elastic: Encaustic Wax and Photography
Artist talk and demo, 3pm
Erin works primarily with photography and encaustic beeswax. Through her camera, she collects the beautiful colors and textures of daily life. When she takes photographs, even highly abstracted ones, they hold powerful memories of when, where, and why. Erin is especially interested in the elasticity of light as it dances around shadow and reflection. Capturing light is sometimes ethereal and sometimes edgy. It is intriguing how the camera lens “sees” differently than the eye.

The Gallery at Flat Rock is proud to present Marsha Hammel, a Hendersonville-based painter whose colorful canvases depicting musicians, singers and dancers have been exhibited nationally and internationally. Her RetroForward exhibition at The Gallery at Flat Rock will include pieces by Hammel dating over the 30-year period between 1987-2017.
