Laura Ralls Duprey
Guest Artist Reception at M. Hammel Studio
March 1, 5 - 7pm
1901 Kanuga Road
Hendersonville, NC 28739
Every once in a blue moon there are two artists who share a relationship that’s mutually supportive as both a friendship and in an art sense. That’s what we love about painters Marsha Hammel and Laura Ralls Duprey, who have known each other since their art college days. For the month of March, Marsha will be graciously welcoming Laura as a Guest Artist in Residence at her Hendersonville studio at 1901 Kanuga Road. On Friday, March 1 from 5 to 7pm, Marsha will host a public reception for Laura at her studio at 1901 Kanuga Road. The reception will give Laura a chance to share details about the fascinating and ancient technique of painting in oils on board while using plaster in the process.
“Imagine a visual rendition of Stravinsky's music - that is how Laura's complex and mysterious abstract paintings strike me,” Marsha says. In her recent 40 x 60 in. painting “Helios,” (which will be on view) Laura layered paint but also carved into the surface in a process in which time is a governing factor—because once the oil paints are mixed with plaster, there’s only a short window before the paint begin to dry and are no longer workable.
In case you miss the reception, Laura's new sculptures and paintings will be on view at Marsha’s studio throughout March.
