Artist Spotlight - Sacred Oak Pottery

  • The Gallery at Flat Rock 2702 Greenville Highway Flat Rock, NC, 28731 United States (map)

We hope you’ll join us to celebrate Bonnie and Jim Rash, the collaborative couple behind Sacred Oak Pottery, in an event from 2-4 p.m. this Saturday, June 24, to launch the new lines from their studio and welcome them to The Gallery!

The gallery has dozens of pieces from Sacred Oak Pottery that we are excited to showcase! A specially-made table will feature Bonnie and Jim's work along with beautiful glassware from new gallery artist Haley Jelenik. We're looking forward to seeing you Saturday afternoon for this casual drop-in event!

Bonnie, the founder and long-time owner of Silver Fox Gallery, now creates functional pottery with her co-creator husband Jim from their Sacred Oak Pottery studio in Dana. The influence of Bonnie’s decades of experience curating fine craft for Silver Fox as well as her numerous professional interior design projects show in the quality and form of their functional pottery pieces. Jim does most of the throwing while Bonnie handles trimming each piece and the glazing process.

The Sacred Oak Pottery line features beautiful functional pottery with clean lines and timeless forms that have a particular earthy elegance and grace. Their fully functional pieces are made to be enjoyed and used in everyday life.

I was fortunate to meet Bonnie and Jim soon after the gallery opened and Bonnie has been a role model to me in regard to running a creative business. As the founder and long-time owner of Silver Fox Gallery, Bonnie had decades of experience curating fine craft and offering her talents as a professional interior designer to create beautiful home environments.

After the sale of the gallery, Bonnie began taking pottery classes. Around two years ago, after a wrist fracture and an old injury left Bonnie's hands weakened, Jim started helping her by centering and throwing clay on the pottery wheel while Bonnie continued to do the trimming and glazing on each piece. It was then that Jim fell in love with the process.

Jim explains that after spending their careers in the corporate world and being materially driven, they are now focused on a simpler life. “After retirement and recovery from several major health issues,” he says,” We are filled with gratitude to be living this peaceful life, doing work together that neither of us can do alone."

We are so proud to have Bonnie and Jim’s Sacred Oak Pottery here! We hope you'll join us in welcoming Bonnie and Jim this Saturday, June 24 in a meet-and-greet event from 2-4 p.m. here at the gallery.
