About Traveling Peace Mug
This mug intends to spend this year traveling the world in the spirit of the 2021 U.N. International Year of Peace and Trust. I wonder, who will use this simple and common cup and then entrust it to a friend to do the same? This mug is looking for a special person to start its journey, to use it and then pass it on to someone else to enjoy. That next person would then do the same, also sending on the journal that’s designed to accompany the mug, so that each stop along the way can be documented. At the end of 2021, the mug would be shipped back to me, the artist, to hand over to the original owner to keep. I will keep the journal with its record of the mug’s journey and will publish some of the highlights on my website and Instagram account.
The mug is wheel-formed porcelain which has been carved with longitudinal lines. It has a copper celadon glaze and was fired in an electric kiln to 2,250 degrees Fahrenheit. The journal was handmade by Chad Alice Hagen, of Asheville, of felted wool. The materials comprising the mug and the journal have been sourced from all over the world, from the porcelain (from Cornwall, England), and the glaze materials (from Canada, Arizona, and Africa), to the wool in the journal, which was sourced from New Zealand.
