About Into the Light

For the past few years, I’ve been painting from the birds that I find so fascinating. My paintings don’t use specific birds, but birds as symbols of beauty, freedom, and simplicity. Each painting had caught a particular feeling that I was trying to capture, until I painted “Into the Light.” For weeks, I worked on the motion of the wings but it wasn’t until I “got out of my head” and painted without my ego telling me what to do that I was able to complete the piece. The painting had gotten dark and heavy like the news headlines, but when I was able to get past the negativity and transcend my circumstances, I was able to really paint with my heart and create something light, like the beautiful birds I love.
