Artist Statement of CAN YOU HEAR ME.
This piece is a celebration of deaf culture, not as a silence, but as a vibrant visual language and a powerful form of expression. I created this work to honor the beauty, complexity, and resilience of the deaf community. Often, deafness is seen through the narrow lens of limitation. In truth, it is a unique cultural identity with its own rich history, language, humor, and traditions.
Through textures and movement-inspired lines, this artwork conveys the visual nature of communication in the deaf community. It invites the viewer to listen with their eyes, to pause and recognize that diversity is not just something we hear—it’s something we feel, see, and understand when we truly pay attention.
This piece is both a tribute and an invitation: to celebrate all the ways we connect, to embrace differences as sources of strength, and to recognize that being human isn’t about fitting into one mode of communication—it’s about finding meaning in all of them.
