The first in its Artist Table series, "Jazz NOLA Style" is being held on Mardi Gras. The New Orleans-themed evening will feature live jazz from the Richard Shulman Trio, a NOLA-style meal prepared by Chef Todd Mallin of Hubba Hubba Catering, wine by Alan Ward of Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards, as well as an interactive painting demonstration by Marsha Hammel.
"This is the chance for the sort of improvisation that musicians use to create jazz," says Hammel. "Our intention is to form a palette of flavor, sound and vision and to bring these elements together to share with others the experience of the creative process."
The evening will begin with a wine tasting led by Ward. Once guests are seated, Mallin will present the first course, touching upon the theme of pairing his dishes to Hammel's painting, "Jazz NOLA Style" which was created especially for this event (and is pictured here). As guests dine, Hammel will sketch the jazz trio as they perform and elaborate on her process. The finished oil painting will be featured in Hammel's solo show at the gallery in April; Hammel is the newest artist to be represented at The Gallery at Flat Rock.
The next Artist Table will be on June 18, 2018. Please email info@galleryflatrock.com to be notified when tickets go on sale.
