We are thrilled to be participating in Marked Tree Vineyard's annual La Vie en Rosé fundraiser event to support the Arts Council of Henderson County! This three-day arts, music, and wine festival, taking place over the weekend of June 9, 10, and 11, will include a fun fashion show on Friday evening, June 9. Four local establishments will supply fashion for the catwalk, and we are proud to have local fabric artist Ash Rana represent The Gallery at Flat Rock for this fashion show. Rana is also joining the gallery as a new artist!
Ash, no stranger to the fashion industry, worked for many years creating handmade clothing for men and women with a team of creators from his studio facility in Miami. He now creates handprinted, one-of-a-kind clothing here in western North Carolina. Born in Kathmandu, Nepal, Rana later lived in Bangladesh and Pakistan and came to love Western pop music, Bollywood movies, and attending temple services, where women wore silk saris with tees, and men donned blazers over kurtas (long shirts) and traditional baggy drawstring pants. We love that Ash is adding diversity to the fabulous circle of artists here in Henderson County!
Ash will create seven looks for the show—three for men and four for women. His self-described Slow Fashion pieces are all handmade and feature silkscreened patterns, printed patterns, some hand quilting, and a variety of vintage fabrics from all over the world in stylish, creative combinations. Jewelry artist Joanne Davis-Woods will complete the looks with fabulous multi-layered necklaces and bracelets for both men and women. Joanne is a skilled metalsmith who incorporates beautiful stones into her work. The look for this fashion show is meant to be versatile for day or evening, "for those who follow their own paths." Joanne describes the overall look as "easy, distinctive, and modern but with historic roots."
