The Gallery at Flat Rock is excited to present “heART to heART” the first-ever exhibit at the gallery to feature work by artists in relationship: eight couples presenting work done both individually and in collaboration. Going well beyond typical family dynamics, “heART to heART” aims to delve into the mysteries of shared inspiration, the intimate choices in creative process and the tools of creative support in artistic marriages.
For some couples, collaborating has meant shifting gears artistically to let their partners have choices in the process and ultimate outcome of the artwork. “This project gives a whole new meaning to the concept of compromise,” says Kay Bonitz. “A jewelry designer and a photographer who used to be an accountant and an engineer—what fun to figure out a way to bring our work together.”
The group show, which runs Sept. 13- Oct. 7, 2018, will include work by clay artists Alice Ballard and Roger Dalrymple; glass artists Valerie and Rick Beck; wood artists Melissa Engler and Graeme Priddle; Diane Kuehn (fiber) and Brian Kuehn (painting); Marian Miller (jewelry) and Matt Repsher (clay); Molly Sharp (jewelry) and David Voorhees (clay); Meghan Bernard (clay) and Aaron Bernard (painting), and Kay Bonitz (jewelry) and Werner Bonitz (photography). An opening reception for “heART to heART” will take place on September 13 from 5-7 p.m.
