The Gallery at Flat Rock is excited to present The Art of Afternoon Tea & Etiquette, a special educational workshop featuring Kym Brown, owner of A Southern Cup Fine Teas in Hendersonville.
This would be a great way to celebrate a friend's special day. Come share the afternoon with a daughter, granddaughter and or sister. Gather your friends come have a light lunch, tea, a lot of laughs and learn about The Art of Afternoon Tea & Etiquette.
Kym, a native of Baton Rouge, LA, has long been immersed in the culture of tea and tea drinking. She describes her tutorials as “informal yet informative.” She adds, “It’s more of a conversation, not a to-do list about my passion, which happens to be tea.” Following a concise history of the world’s most popular beverage—from the first tealeaf cultivation in China to the rise of afternoon tea culture in Britain—Brown will describe the edible components of a typical afternoon tea, from varieties of tea to the “savories” and “sweets” that complement this mini-meal.
Brown will also illuminate participants on the requisite etiquette for both serving and consuming afternoon tea, including how to properly eat a scone. “We’ll go through the basic do’s and don’ts for the proper way to take afternoon tea,” she says. Brown will also clarify the finer points of how to slather scones with clotted cream, jam and/or lemon curd, according to various regions of the British Isles. “This will be a traditional tea with a three-tiered tray,” says Brown. “There will be time to enjoy the tea and not feel rushed.”
Cost is $25 per person and includes a full afternoon tea. This event is limited to 40 participants.
