Tracey McMahan | Mixed Media

Recently, my passion has led me to work with fabric scraps and textiles, centered around special finds from my walks in forests, woods and beaches - whenever I can get there. Nature truly does feed my soul. When sharing these creations with a friend, she asked if I would take small rocks that held lovely memories for her and incorporate them into one of my pieces. “Sacred Moments” was born.

My other passion is helping women find their creative voice. I invite these women to visit the Gypsy Room and play with various art supplies, simply having fun and exploring different medium. When they mention not having “a creative bone in their bodies,” I remind them that our God created us in His image. If He is Creator, then every single one of us has a creative nature, as well. Together we find an outlet that excites and invigorates them. Art is a beautiful common denominator for every one of us, and I joy in helping others discover this for themselves.

Tracey McMahan spends most days creating art pieces in her “Gypsy Room,” the name she’s given the downstairs studio in her home in Hendersonville, North Carolina. Lining her shelves are bits and bobs collected from nature, as well as industrial litter – discarded metal scraps used in her mixed media pieces. In addition, she paints with acrylics and watercolor and often incorporates polymer clay into her work.
