Jen Starwalt | Pastels

My inspiration comes from all around us. All of what I have seen, explored and become. My art is built upon a lifetime of experiences, adventures, observations and feelings. Each mark I make carries all of my heart and soul. It carries the energy and expression that surrounds and manifests in all things.
— Jen

Jen Starwalt is a contemporary wildlife artist with an emphasis on expressive color and capturing the soul of the animal. Her love of wildlife has grown into a passion for conservation, sharing the joy and connection she has for this Earth.

Through the process of layering strokes of soft pastel she creates light and shadow, warm and cool tones, these traits are the foundation of everything around us. The contrast of the world we live in. Each mark has its own vibration, its own voice. When layered together the colors start to converse amongst one another. This dialogue alters the perception of the colors depending on what surrounds them. As completion of a painting nears, the layers begin to ebb and flow into unity, into a tapestry of interwoven pigments. Get up close to the work and you will see the complexity of each individual mark. Stand back and the individual colors harmonize to become whole. It is the same with the complexity of our experiences and emotions, individually we are unique but when put together we create beautiful oneness.

Jen’s hope is when you look into the eyes of her work, you feel it in your soul. Even if for just a moment.. your heart beats with the wild.
