Spring Wildflower Saunter with Tim Jones

To saunter is something altogether different from a hike or a stroll. It comes from a French expression that means to go on a rambling pilgrimage to a sacred place. That best describes the delight and improvisational nature of Tim’s wanderings among the mountain forests when they are resurrected with rich colors and aromas each Spring. This will be a chance to join Tim in a small group setting and experience in person many of the wildflowers that inhabit his photographs. Tim will be sharing some of his favorite plant lore along the way.

Rapid Fire with Jennifer Halli

Jennifer started working in clay during a decade long spell of living in New Zealand. Looking to hone her wheel and woodfiring skills, she moved to Australia and apprenticed to Robert Barron, in Kardella, VIC.

Following on from chasing wombats, travels took Jennifer back to the USA where she was introduced to the American craft scene by way of The Center for Craft, Creativity & Design; here she was able to mentor the next generation of makers. When spreadsheets became too much, ceramic sculptor Peter Callas was in need of an assistant. Taking finely tuned skills from Rob and throwing them out the window at Peter’s, it was time for graduate school.
Today, when not travelling whenever and wherever possible, Jennifer spends her time at University of Massachusetts|Dartmouth as a Distinguished Art Fellow.

She has been invited to firings and exhibitions throughout the USA, Australia, Denmark and New Zealand.

Join us as we welcome her to the gallery for a one day studio sale.

The Art of the Afternoon Tea & Etiquette

The Art of the Afternoon Tea & Etiquette

he Gallery at Flat Rock is excited to present The Art of Afternoon Tea & Etiquette, a special educational workshop featuring Kym Brown, owner of A Southern Cup Fine Teas in Hendersonville.

This would be a great way to celebrate a friend's special day. Come share the afternoon with a daughter, granddaughter and or sister. Gather your friends come have a light lunch, tea, a lot of laughs and learn about The Art of Afternoon Tea & Etiquette.

Kym, a native of Baton Rouge, LA, has long been immersed in the culture of tea and tea drinking. She describes her tutorials as “informal yet informative.” She adds, “It’s more of a conversation, not a to-do list about my passion, which happens to be tea.” Following a concise history of the world’s most popular beverage—from the first tealeaf cultivation in China to the rise of afternoon tea culture in Britain—Brown will describe the edible components of a typical afternoon tea, from varieties of tea to the “savories” and “sweets” that complement this mini-meal.

Brown will also illuminate participants on the requisite etiquette for both serving and consuming afternoon tea, including how to properly eat a scone. “We’ll go through the basic do’s and don’ts for the proper way to take afternoon tea,” she says. Brown will also clarify the finer points of how to slather scones with clotted cream, jam and/or lemon curd, according to various regions of the British Isles. “This will be a traditional tea with a three-tiered tray,” says Brown. “There will be time to enjoy the tea and not feel rushed.”

Cost is $25 per person and includes a full afternoon tea.
This event is limited to 40 participants.
